Acknowledgement of Country

We acknowledge that our learning community stands on the sacred lands of the Wiradjuri people. While there has been a great change to this land over the many generations, we know in our hearts that the story and spirit of the Wiradjuri nation will always be written in this landscape. In the spirit of reconciliation, we honour and respect the custodians past, present and emerging, and we are grateful for the opportunity to join with them in continuing to nurture this land.

From the Principal

What an honour it was for us to host the annual diocesan Christmas Art Competition. Last Friday was an opportunity to not only showcase our outstanding Stage 3 artists and their works but a special time for our school to share with the rest of our diocese, our state of the art facilities and our outstanding hospitality. We thank Mr Corben, Mr Hughes and Mrs Foran (all the way from Dunedoo) for curating this exhibition along with Bishop Michael and our Executive Director of Schools, Mrs Christina Trimble for their presence and support of this initiative. Mr Boylan, along with our school leadership team and Stage 3 finalists did an amazing job in supporting the event with their friendly welcomes and diligent hospitality.

The Christmas story was brought to life through the artistic narration of the many entries in this competition and Bishop Michael reminded us that as our children learn and remember the nativity story they are given the opportunity to relate the humanity of Jesus to their own lived experience of birth and journey.

Camille da Silva Tavares   | Principal

Afternoon Pick Up

In an effort to keep our students safe at pick up time, please read the following reminders:

Walkers - Only students walking to a workplace or home should join the walkers. If you are picking your child up and you are parked across any nearby road, then you need to walk over to school to collect your child from the William St or George St collection point.

Teachers only escort students across the crossings on William, Keppel and George Sts. Students are then left to make their way home. Please ensure that your child has the knowledge of and ability to walk the safest route home before allowing them to cross busy streets. Please note that not all streets around the school have pedestrian crossings and our teachers do not escort students across these streets.

George St - If collecting students on the Geroge St exit, please walk to students who will be seated on the pavers for collection. Students are not allowed to meet you on the street. If parked on the opposite side of the road, please use the pedestrian crossing and do not cross in front of or behind buses.

William St - If collecting students on the William St exit, please collect students from the gate. If parked on the opposite side of the road please use the pedestrian crossing on William St.

Please hold your child’s hand when exiting the school grounds.

We thank you for supporting these procedures and for modelling safe and calm behaviours at pick up time.

Christmas Art Storytelling Competition
It was wonderful to welcome staff, students and families from around the diocese last Friday as Cathedral School hosted the annual Christmas Art Storytelling Launch and Exhibition. Bishop Michael and Decon Josh reminded us of the significance of the scripture passages used in the competition, along with the passages that are proclaimed throughout the year always reminding us that Jesus is with us. Congratulations to our school representatives and all prize recipients for your amazing artistic talents and ability to personalise and contextualise your faith so creatively!

A huge thank you to Mr Glenn Corben and Mr Paul Hughes for their expertise, fostering and dedication to this project. Many of our classes were lucky to visit the exhibition and our Year 4 and 5 students were hopefully inspired by the amazing artworks on display as they prepare to take part in the integrated unit of learning next year. Thank you to the families who were able to also join us and to our Captains, Vice Captains and other senior students for supporting  with hospitality and the welcoming of guests.

Stage Mass
Stage 2 came together last week for a wonderful Mass together.  Please join us this Thursday from 9:10am in the Cathedral Church where Years K, 1 and 2 will come together to celebrate Mass.

Families are invited to enjoy a cuppa from 8:30am in the hall before the commencement of the assembly.

Class In Focus - 2M

In Term 3, 2M have been learning about our geographical world. We have been looking at the continents of our world and we are modelling this by creating a paper mache globe in Visual Arts. We got into a very sticky situation as we had to apply several layers of newspaper and glue over a balloon to make our globe. Next we will paint and then stick on the continents of the world.

In Mathematics we have continued our ‘hands on’ approach to learning as we modelled various multiplication problems by creating arrays with blocks.

Wellbeing

We need volunteers to help with our Breakfast Club every morning from 8.20-8.40am.

Please contact Alana on 0417 044 116 or just show up to the canteen in the morning. A BIG thank you to all our new volunteers!

I had the pleasure of presenting an EMPATHY award at Assembly this week to 3B. These students showed great care and kindness towards a member of the class who was having a hard day. Well done to 3B!
